Robotic Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery (sometimes called laparoscopic surgery) is performed through tiny incisions and utilizes specialized techniques, miniature cameras with microscopes, tiny fiber-optic flashlights and high definition monitors to minimize recovery time after the surgery. These surgeries can typically be performed through incisions that require only one or two stitches to close.

Minimally invasive surgery means less trauma to the body, less blood loss, smaller surgical scars and less need for pain medication.

Patients often return to normal activities sooner than with conventional surgery techniques.

Our practice offers the most advanced gynecological surgical techniques and equipment to treat our patients. Dr. Conlen, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. performs numerous in-office, non-invasive surgical techniques for many common gynecologic conditions such as uterine fibroids, heavy menstruations, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, urinary incontinence, and permanent sterilization.

Frequently Asked Questions about the da Vinci Surgical System:

What is Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy Surgery?

Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy Surgery is surgery typically performed through small incisions, as opposed to the traditional methods of operating through large incisions. This process typically results in potentially shorter recovery times, fewer complications, reduced hospitalization costs, and reduced trauma to the patient. Although Minimally Invasive Surgery has become standard-of-care for particular surgical procedures, it is relatively new to hysterectomy procedures.

What are the benefits of Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy surgery?

From a procedural standpoint, some of the benefits are greater surgical precision, an increase in the range of motion during the operation, and improved visualization and access during the procedure. Some of the benefits experienced by the patient include faster recovery times, less blood loss and scarring, and lower risk of infection. All of this leads to a faster return to their daily lives.

Where is the da Vinci Surgical System being used now?
